i'm canadian and i'm just wondering.. do you guys wear poppies around Remembrance Day like we do? I noticed people in other commonwealth countries have their own variations of the poppy pin that we wear.

A lot of us do wear Poppies around Remembrance Day. However in Australia, whilst we do acknowledge Remembrance Day, ANZAC Day on April 25 is much more “significant” to us and that is the day Australians (and our friends in New Zealand with whom we share this day with) really reflect and remember our fallen soldiers. If you’re interested in learning more about ANZAC Day, Wikipedia explains it really well.

ANZAC Day is a public holiday here and there are Parades/Services in virtually every city and most Australians make a point of attending as it is an important day to us. Many Australians have the dream of one day attending the dawn service in Gallipoli, Turkey. I know it is something I really want to do before I die. (Along with going to Canada and seeing some snow!)
